Costs

  • Lower fuel costs for LPG
Right now, LPG is about $1 per litre cheaper than unleaded petrol in Australia. Mainly because Australia has plentiful supplies of LPG and there is no excise tax on LPG
  • While LPG consumption is higher than petrol, 10-20% for city driving and 30% on the open road, the cheaper price of LPG combined with the savings on maintenance mean that vehicles that frequently travel long distances are likely to recover the cost of conversion quite quickly and enjoy lower costs than petrol fuelled cars

Environment

LPG is a cleaner burning fuel than petrol which means greenhouse gases and other pollutants are significantly reduced in LPG powered cars. Typical figures for comparison of vehicles running on Autogas LPG fuel to Petrol:

  • 10-15% lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • 20% less ozone forming potential (ozone can cause smog)
  • A cold engine has much less of an effect on LPG cars which means a significant reduction in real world emissions when you consider that most urban vehicles are used for short trips
  • A cleaner refuelling process as there are no vapours escaping due to the fully sealed system used to refuel Autogas tanks
  • A significant reduction in particulate emissions. When compared to Diesel engines it is over 90% reduced
  • Minimal sulphur dioxide emissions (a major cause of acid rain)

Performance

Cars converted to LPG generally run smoother and idle better. LPG enters the engine as a gas and so it can spread more evenly through the cylinders when compared to petrol and provides a greater efficiency of combustion.

Longer engine life. Reduced depositions (change spark plugs less often)
Oil has less soot and unburnt fuel so oil filters last longer and are changed less often
As a gaseous fuel, LPG doesn’t disturb oil lubrication of critical parts of the engine, unlike petrol.

Safety

LPG is commonly used to fuel vehicles in many countries including USA, Europe, Japan and Australia. In all these countries it has been found to be at least as safe as petrol. Many suggest that Autogas (the LPG fuel for cars) is substantially safer than petrol due to the robust nature of the fuel tank, making it more impact resistant.

Strict Australian standards

  • Cover all LPG equipment, appliances and their installation, storage and handling
  • Automotive Alternative Fuels Registration Board (AAFRB) registers all Victorian businesses that perform petrol to LPG conversions.

Safety features of EzyGas LPG Systems:

  • 3mm welded steel pressure cylinder that undergoes rigorous stress testing prior to installation
  • Shut-off solenoids on the cylinder and under the bonnet that stop the flow of gas if the engine stops
  • Pressure relief valves for the tank and systems to prevent potentially hazardous or damaging pressure build up
  • Double back-check valves that ensure one way flow of gas from the pump into the tank for safe gas filling
  • Valves and pipe-work are sealed in compartments to ensure no LPG can enter the interior of the vehicle
  • Installed by qualified and professional personnel who comply to rigorous Australian standards
